Kenya

PACKING LIST. LET'S GET PRACTICAL.

Are you wondering what to pack for your trip to Kenya? Here is an essential packing checklist that addresses dress code issues, weather, and other important logistics – and will make sure you have everything you need: from clothes and deodorant to chargers and cameras.

Masai Mara Luggage Restrictions
  • Luggage is restricted to 15 kg per person (which includes hand luggage). Luggage allowance is strictly enforced for safety reasons. Bags should be soft-sided, flexible bags. Bags with a solid frame do not constitute ‘soft bags’. Bags MUST be completely flexible to facilitate being stowed in the ‘belly pod’ luggage compartment of the light inter-camp transfer aircraft. This 15 kg includes both hand luggage and travel luggage.
HAND LUGGAGE
  • Please clearly mark each piece of your luggage with your full name and phone number.
  • Passport/visa

TSA-Approved clear toiletry bags available on Amazon (search for "16 (or 18) Pack Travel Bottles Set - TSA Approved Leak Proof Silicone Squeezable Containers for Toiletries, Conditioner, Shampoo, Lotion & Body Wash Accessories")
  • No tweezers or sharp instruments
WEATHER
  • Kenya is hot and sunny most of the year given its close location to the Equator. On average, the temperature ranges between 80-85 Fahrenheit although it can be colder during July & August (the winter months in Kenya), and hottest during February which is also the driest month. Though even in the hottest months, the weather can fluctuate from chilly mornings and evenings to very hot midday temperatures – anywhere between 55-85 in the same day.

POLICY ON PLASTIC BAGS

The bag ban is countrywide – luggage is often scanned, so don’t pack shoes or other items in plastic bags. Single-use plastic bottles and straws are banned in national parks.
