CASABLANCA: FIRST ENCOUNTERS WITH MOROCCO

  • Arrive at Casablanca International Airport.

  • Gather in the hotel lobby to meet your J² Expert Educator and local Moroccan tour guide, who will accompany us on this unforgettable experience. Begin exploring the bustling streets of Casablanca, a city rich in history and diversity.
  • Visit key sites, including:
    • A local church, showcasing Morocco’s commitment to religious coexistence.
    • The main square, where past and present merge seamlessly.
    • The site of the Casablanca Conference, where world leaders gathered in 1943 to shape history.
    • The legendary Rick's Café, bringing the magic of Hollywood’s classic film Casablanca to life.
  • Stroll along the Corniche, the city’s picturesque seaside boardwalk. Enjoy lunch on your own at one of the many cafés overlooking the ocean.
  • Check into our hotel and settle in before gathering for an orientation offering insight into Morocco’s rich Jewish heritage.
  • Visit the historic Beth-El Synagogue, Casablanca’s active Jewish center, and reflect on the resilience of Jewish life in Morocco.
  • Festive welcome dinner at a local restaurant. Surrounded by the sounds of traditional instruments indulge in the exotic flavors of Moroccan cuisine, from aromatic tagines to delicate pastries.

DAY 3
FROM CASABLANCA TO FES: JEWISH LIFE PAST AND PRESENT

  • Check out of the hotel and begin the day with a visit to one of Morocco’s architectural marvels: the Hassan II Mosque, an awe-inspiring structure built over the Atlantic Ocean. With its intricate tilework and towering minaret, it is one of the largest and most breathtaking mosques in the world.
  • Hospitality lunch with Dorit Ben Moha, an intimate opportunity to hear her personal story and gain firsthand insight into Jewish life in Morocco today. A lifelong member of Casablanca’s Jewish community, Dorit dedicated over 40 years to JDC in Morocco, working to strengthen Jewish life and support programs for the elderly and vulnerable.
  • Step into history at the Museum of the Jews of Morocco, the only Jewish museum in the Arab world, and explore Morocco’s deep Jewish roots through artifacts and exhibits.
  • Continue to Fes, a city of immense cultural and historical significance, once Morocco’s capital and a major center of Jewish scholarship.

DAY 4
FES: A WALK THROUGH TIME

  • Begin the day with breathtaking panoramic views of Fes and its ancient Medina from the historic Borj Sud fortress.
  • Explore the city’s rich Jewish heritage:
    • The Ibn Danan Synagogue, one of the oldest and most significant synagogues in North Africa, recently restored to its former glory.
    • The El Fassiyin Synagogue, which was once repurposed as a boxing ring and a carpet factory but has now been returned to its original purpose.
    • The Fes Jewish Cemetery, where we will hear the remarkable stories of the city’s revered rabbis and scholars.
  • Wander through the maze-like Medina of Fes, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the world’s largest pedestrian-only urban area.
  • Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing our explorations:
    • The University of Al-Karaouine, the world’s oldest operating university, where Jewish and Muslim scholars once studied side by side.
    • The Chouara Tannery, where the ancient art of leather dyeing is still practiced today.
  • Return to the hotel.

RABAT: ROYAL HISTORY AND MODERN MOROCCO

  • Check out of the hotel and travel to Rabat, Morocco’s elegant capital city.
  • Visit the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, the revered king who protected Morocco’s Jews during World War II, refusing to allow their deportation.
  • Pay respects at the Mausoleum of Hassan II, the former king known for modernizing Morocco.
  • Continue to the Kasbah des Oudayas, a picturesque hilltop fortress offering stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the city below.
  • Check into the hotel and engage in a meaningful dialogue with Einat Levi, an entrepreneur and researcher specializing in Morocco and its relations with Israel.
  • Evening at leisure to explore the capital.

  • Explore the Berber Museum, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Morocco’s indigenous Berber people.

JEWISH MARRAKECH & MOROCCAN FLAVORS

  • Dialogue on the role of the Imam in Moroccan society, facilitated by a professor of English and a local Imam, offering insight into Moroccan Islam and how it differs from other regions.
  • Explore the Mellah, the historic Jewish quarter of Marrakech.
  • Visit the Slat el Azama Synagogue, a still-active synagogue of deep historical significance.
  • Visit the Jewish Cemetery, final resting place of many prominent Moroccan Jewish figures.
  • Tzedakah: Help in maintaining the Marrakech Jewish Cemetery by painting graves.
  • Participate in an interactive Moroccan cooking class and learn to prepare a traditional tagine. Enjoy lunch featuring the dishes you prepared.
  • Free time to explore the markets or relax at a traditional hammam.

ATLAS MOUNTAINS & BERBER HOSPITALITY

  • Scenic drive through the Sidi Abdellah Ghiat and Oued Maleh valleys toward the Atlas Mountains.
  • Visit the grave of Rabbi Shlomo BelHench, the revered Jewish saint known as the “Son of the Snake,” and hear the legends surrounding his life.
  • Continue to a traditional Berber village, welcomed by the village chief and local musicians.
  • Enjoy a home-cooked lunch made with fresh, local ingredients while learning about Berber culture and traditions.
  • Drive back to Marrakech after a stunning day in the Atlas Mountains.
  • Festive farewell dinner at a local restaurant accompanied by a live musical performance.

FAREWELL TO MOROCCO

    • Validity | All prices quoted are based on exchange rates as of the proposal date and are subject to change without notice. Rates are per person and are based on shared twin room occupancy.
    • How to Make a Reservation | The quickest way to make a reservation is to register online or contact us by email. We accept VISA, MasterCard, and American Express credit cards. A non-refundable deposit of $675 is required in order to complete the registration process.

  • Payments | The balance of your payment is due 120 days before your trip begins, or as specified in your invoice. You will receive an email reminder 2 weeks before this date. Various payment options are available as follows:
    • Credit card | We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Please check with your credit card provider regarding international processing fees. We are unable to process payments of over $1,000 over the phone. Please submit payment online via a credit card or by wiring funds via your bank.
    • Domestic bank wire transfer | Payment should be wired in the same currency that is listed on your invoice. Please add the name of your group or invoice number as a reference and forward a copy of the transfer receipt by email. The bank transfer should clearly state the beneficiary’s name on the wire transfer.
  • J² Adventures reserves the right to automatically cancel your reservation on that date and it may be subject to reconfirmation should the final payment not be received.
  • Cancelation Policy | All cancelations need to be made in writing. The cancelation fee depends on the date when we receive written notification of your request to cancel your booking. Please note that the deposit is non-refundable.
    • Cancelation fees | Cancelations made 120 or more days prior to departure incur the loss of the deposit. Cancelations made 119 to 46 days prior to departure incur the loss of 50% of the full trip cost. Cancelations made 45 days or less prior to the departure incur the loss of 100% of the full trip cost.
    • Cancelation fees may also include: Hotel or supplier cancelation fees. J² Adventures reserves the right to adjust its terms of payment, including cancelation policies and initial deposits.
