Program Itinerary

DAY 1
WELCOME TO ISRAEL
Mon. Nov 30, 2026
  • Arrive at Ben Gurion Airport, where you will be warmly welcomed by your tour educator who will accompany you on this journey of education and inspiration.
  • Check into the hotel.
  • Enjoy a thoughtfully prepared, private dinner, at a local restaurant, as your J² Expert Educator provides a substantive briefing on the current regional landscape, helping frame the days ahead with context, nuance, and clarity.
Overnight: Jerusalem Meals: Dinner
DAY 2
IN SEARCH OF HOPE
Tue. Dec 1, 2026
  • Begin the day with an in-depth learning session at the Shalom Hartman Institute. Together with a leading scholar, explore how ancient Jewish texts speak to modern moral and communal dilemmas, weaving timeless ideas into today’s most pressing questions.
  • Continue to an exclusive behind-the-scenes visit at Israel’s National Library. Gain private access to rare manuscripts, historical archives, and special collections that preserve the intellectual and cultural treasures of the Jewish people. Engage directly with curators and scholars to better understand how memory, preservation, and scholarship shape Jewish continuity.
  • Head into the Old City of Jerusalem. Pause at the Southern Steps, a powerful site of ancient pilgrimage, for reflection and prayer. Walk through the Armenian Quarter, learning about this small but enduring community whose history is deeply interwoven with Jerusalem’s complex mosaic.
  • Progressive Jewish communities have struggled for recognition in modern Israel. The establishment of a prayer section for egalitarian communities along the Western Wall is part of that struggle. We will visit the pluralistic prayer area along the Western Wall - Azarat Yisrael - to draw inspiration and strength from all that has been achieved and all that still lies ahead, and to discuss recent political developments that endanger these efforts.
Overnight: Jerusalem Meals: Breakfast
DAY 3
JUSTICE, COMMUNITY, AND HEALING
Wed. Dec 2, 2026
  • Begin the morning with a walk through Gazelle Valley, an inspiring example of grassroots environmental activism that preserved open green space in the heart of Jerusalem. Learn about civic engagement and the intersection of urban development and ecological responsibility.
  • Visit Israel’s Supreme Court, where Ori Narov of the Israel Religious Action Center (IRAC) will guide a conversation on Jewish values, democracy, minority rights, and the ongoing evolution of Israeli judicial tradition.
  • Lunch on your own at Mahane Yehuda Market, offering the opportunity to support small local vendors and experience the vibrancy of contemporary Jerusalem.
  • In the afternoon, participate in a powerful culinary workshop with Rabbi and chef Nissimi, a reservist whose role includes notifying families of fallen soldiers. Through baking challah or babka, explore how food becomes a vehicle for comfort, memory, and resilience. Rabbi Nissimi shares his personal story and reflects on healing, responsibility, and hope.
Overnight: Jerusalem Meals: Breakfast
DAY 4
RESILIENCE IN THE GAZA ENVELOPE
Thu. Dec 3, 2026
  • Check out of the hotel and travel south to the Gaza Envelope.
  • Visit Kibbutz Nirim with Rabbi Avi Dabush, Executive Director of Rabbis for Human Rights, for a conversation about activism, trauma, and moral courage in times of crisis.
  • Continue to the memorial site of the Nova Festival next to Kibbutz Re’im, honoring those murdered on October 7, 2023. Take time for reflection and remembrance.
  • Meet residents and volunteers in the Eshkol region who chose to uproot their lives for a year to help rebuild. Hear firsthand about resilience, rebuilding, and the human dimension of recovery.
  • Visit ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran Rehabilitation Village was named to honor the memory of Eran Almog, the late son and guiding light of founders Didi and Major General (Res.) Doron Almog. Fueled by his love for Eran, who was born with severe autism and cognitive disabilities, Doron Almog led the creation of the one-of-a-kind rehabilitation village in Israel’s south, a community where people from diverse backgrounds and all levels of ability can live, heal and grow together.
  • Drive to Tel Aviv and check into the hotel.
Overnight: Tel Aviv Meals: Breakfast
DAY 5
CULTURE & CREATIVITY IN THE CITY
Fri. Dec 4, 2026

Enjoy a tasting tour through Hatikva’s open-air market, experiencing the flavors that reflect Israel’s diverse Jewish communities.
  • Explore Nahalat Binyamin Arts & Crafts Market, supporting small local businesses and contemporary Israeli artisans.
  • Return to the hotel to prepare for Shabbat.
  • Join Rabbi Chen Tzfoni at Kehilat Raanan for an honest and meaningful conversation about the realities of leading a liberal religious community in Israel - including the backlash they faced after hosting a joint Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Day ceremony.
  • Participate in Kabbalat Shabbat services followed by a communal dinner with members of the community. (The cost will be covered by Temple Rodef Shalom)
Overnight: Tel Aviv Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
DAY 6
SHABBAT IN TEL AVIV: ART, MEMORY, AND PUBLIC SPACE
Sat. Dec 5, 2026
  • Morning Shabbat experience with your clergy, offering space for reflection, prayer, and communal grounding.
  • Walk through the streets of Florentine, where powerful murals and graffiti capture public emotion in the wake of October 7. Explore the “Walls of Hope” installations, each mural representing one of the children who was held hostage, demonstrating how art becomes both protest and prayer.
  • Meet Dr. Oded Leshem whose research on the cultural-social concept of 'hope' is relevant today more than ever. Oded will explore interpretations and examples of hope as a philosophical and social phenomenon with special emphasis on Israel and the Jewish world today. Where can we look for hope in tough times?
