WELCOME TO BARCELONA
Mon. Mar 8, 2027
  • Arrive in Barcelona and meet your local guide, who will introduce you to the rich history, culture, and rhythm of this dynamic Mediterranean city.
  • Gain your first impressions of Barcelona on a panoramic orientation tour, offering a broad and engaging overview of the city’s most iconic sites and neighborhoods:
    • Take in the seaside beauty of the Passeig Marítim, where the Columbus Monument stands as a reminder of Spain’s global voyages and layered past.
    • Enjoy time on your own for lunch at the lively Boqueria Market, where colorful stalls, local specialties, and bustling energy create an unforgettable culinary experience.
    • Wander along the world-famous Las Ramblas, a vibrant pedestrian boulevard filled with street performers, cafés, and the pulse of daily life in Barcelona.
    • Admire the elegance of Passeig de Gràcia, Barcelona’s grand avenue, where striking Modernist buildings by Antoni Gaudí and his contemporaries showcase the city’s architectural innovation.
  • Check into your hotel and take time to settle in comfortably after your journey.

ECHOES OF THE CALL: 2,000 YEARS OF JEWISH BARCELONA

  • Step into over 2,000 years of Jewish history with a walking exploration of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, where archaeological evidence points to a thriving Jewish presence dating back to the early Common Era, and where for centuries Jews lived, governed, and flourished within their own community.
  • Pause at Casa Adret, the oldest building in the Jewish Quarter, once owned by medieval Jewish residents and today serving as the headquarters of Mozaika, a vibrant Jewish cultural center reconnecting past and present.
  • Engage with volunteers from Mozaika over a tasting of “Jewish tapas,” where dishes inspired by family recipes and diverse traditions reflect a culinary story that spans generations and geographies.
  • Enter the Medieval Synagogue of Barcelona, discovered within the Call Quarter, offering a rare and powerful glimpse into Jewish spiritual life prior to the expulsion of 1492.
  • Conclude the day with a private Sephardic music concert in the atmospheric medieval courtyard of Casa Adret, where melodies rooted in Jewish Spain evoke memory, resilience, and cultural continuity.

JEWISH LIFE AGAINST ALL ODDS IN GIRONA & BESALU

  • Set out from Barcelona for Girona, one of Spain’s most significant centers of Jewish life during the medieval period, where history is preserved in stone and story.
  • Explore Girona’s remarkably preserved Jewish Quarter, dating back to the 12th century, with its narrow alleyways and evocative spaces that speak to centuries of vibrant communal life.
  • Discover the broader medieval city, renowned for its Kabbalistic scholarship and as the home of the great sage Nachmanides, who famously defended Judaism during the 13th-century Disputation of Barcelona.
  • Visit the Jewish Museum of Girona, where artifacts, texts, and thoughtful exhibits illuminate the intellectual, spiritual, and daily life of Catalonia’s Jewish communities.
  • Continue to Besalú, a picturesque medieval town, and experience one of Europe’s best-preserved mikvaot (ritual baths), offering a tangible connection to Jewish ritual life in the Middle Ages.
  • Return to Barcelona, reflecting on the enduring legacy of Jewish life in Catalonia and its resonance today.

DAY 5
THE CITY OF GAUDI

  • Check out of your hotel and prepare to continue your journey across Spain.
  • Marvel at Antoni Gaudí’s unfinished masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia, where soaring forms, intricate symbolism, and visionary design create one of the most extraordinary architectural experiences in the world.
  • Continue to Parc Güell, where whimsical structures, colorful mosaics, and sweeping views of Barcelona reflect Gaudí’s deep connection to nature, imagination, and Catalan identity.
  • Board the AVE high-speed train and travel comfortably across the Spanish countryside, experiencing the modern ease of connection between Spain’s great cities.
  • Arrive in Madrid and transfer to your hotel for check-in, where you will settle in and begin the next chapter of your journey alongside your fellow travelers.

    • Validity | All prices quoted are based on exchange rates as of the proposal date and are subject to change without notice. Rates are per person and are based on shared twin room occupancy.
    • How to Make a Reservation | The quickest way to make a reservation is to register online or contact us by email. We accept VISA, MasterCard, and American Express credit cards. A non-refundable deposit of $350 is required in order to complete the registration process.

  • Payments | The balance of your payment is due 120 days before your trip begins, or as specified in your invoice. You will receive an email reminder 2 weeks before this date. Various payment options are available as follows:
    • Credit card | We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Please check with your credit card provider regarding international processing fees. We are unable to process payments of over $1,000 over the phone. Please submit payment online via a credit card or by wiring funds via your bank.
    • Domestic bank wire transfer | Payment should be wired in the same currency that is listed on your invoice. Please add the name of your group or invoice number as a reference and forward a copy of the transfer receipt by email. The bank transfer should clearly state the beneficiary’s name on the wire transfer.
  • J² Adventures reserves the right to automatically cancel your reservation on that date and it may be subject to reconfirmation should the final payment not be received.
  • Cancelation Policy | All cancelations need to be made in writing. The cancelation fee depends on the date when we receive written notification of your request to cancel your booking. Please note that the deposit is non-refundable.
    • Cancelation fees | Cancelations made 120 or more days prior to departure incur the loss of the deposit. Cancelations made 119 to 46 days prior to departure incur the loss of 50% of the full trip cost. Cancelations made 45 days or less prior to the departure incur the loss of 100% of the full trip cost.
    • Cancelation fees may also include: Hotel or supplier cancelation fees. J² Adventures reserves the right to adjust its terms of payment, including cancelation policies and initial deposits.
