DISCOVERING CASABLANCA AND A TASTE OF MOROCCO

  • 11:00 a.m. Gather in the hotel lobby, meet your J² Expert Educator and local Moroccan tour guide, who will accompany us on this unforgettable experience, and begin exploring the bustling streets of Casablanca, a city rich in history and diversity.

    • A local church, showcasing Morocco’s commitment to religious coexistence.
    • The main square, where past and present merge seamlessly.
    • The site of the Casablanca Conference, where world leaders gathered in 1943 to shape history.
    • The legendary Rick's Café, bringing the magic of Hollywood’s classic film Casablanca to life.
  • Stroll along the Corniche, the city's picturesque seaside boardwalk. Enjoy lunch on your own at one of the many charming cafés overlooking the ocean.
  • Dialogue with Judges of the Jewish Court in Casablanca. Discover the intricate interplay between halacha (Jewish law), Charya (Islamic law), and civil law, as these judges navigate a complex legal framework unique to Morocco. Gain insight into how halacha influences decision-making within the court, creating a delicate balance between religious traditions and modern legal systems in a multicultural society. This meeting provides a rare opportunity to understand the cultural and legal dynamics that shape Moroccan Jewish life.

EXPLORING THE JEWISH LEGACY OF MOROCCO

  • Visit to one of Morocco’s architectural marvels: The Hassan II Mosque, an awe-inspiring structure built over the Atlantic Ocean. With its intricate tilework and towering minaret, it’s one of the largest and most breathtaking mosques in the world.
  • Visit the Neve Shalom Jewish Day School and engage in a conversation with Rabbi Jacky Sebbag to learn about the school’s mission, educational approach, and its role in sustaining the local Jewish community.
  • Hospitality lunch with a member of the local Jewish community – an intimate opportunity to hear her personal story and gain firsthand insight into Jewish life in Morocco today.
  • Step into history at the Museum of the Jews of Morocco, the only Jewish museum in the Arab world. Here, we’ll explore Morocco’s deep Jewish roots through artifacts, stories, and exhibits.
  • Enjoy a walking tour through the Mellah of Casablanca, the city’s old Jewish quarter. While it is one of Morocco's newer Mellahs, it holds a significant place in the country's Jewish history, particularly during the 20th century.
  • Meet with Einat Levi, an entrepreneur and researcher specializing in Morocco and its relations with Israel.
  • Return to the hotel and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant or hotel.

RABAT: CITY OF LEGENDS AND HIDDEN STORIES

  • Check out of the hotel and set out for Rabat, Morocco’s elegant capital city.
  • Morocco through the Gender lens, meet a local expert and discuss women status in Morocco today.
  • Pay respects at the mausoleum of Hassan II, the former king known for modernizing Morocco.
  • Visit the mausoleum of Mohammad V, the revered king who protected Morocco’s Jews during World War II, refusing to allow them to be deported to Nazi concentration camps.
  • Stroll through the alleyways and historic diplomatic buildings of Rabat’s Medina (Walled City), making your way to the Kasbah des Oudayas, a picturesque hilltop fortress offering stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the city below.
  • Check into the hotel.

  • Evening at leisure to explore the capital.

THE MAGIC OF MARRAKECH

  • Discover the Majorelle Garden, an oasis of exotic plants and vibrant cobalt-blue buildings once owned by fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent.
  • Explore the Berber Museum, which showcases the rich cultural heritage of Morocco’s indigenous Berber people.
  • Next, we’ll visit the Yves Saint Laurent Museum, dedicated to the haute couture creations and accessories of the legendary French fashion designer, who called Marrakech home for many years.
  • Check into the hotel and prepare for a special Shabbat experience.

  • Start your day with an inspirational Yoga flow and prepare your body and mind for a day adventure.
  • Participate in a Weaving demonstration at the Artisanal ensemble a government-run artisan complex that brings together certified craftsmen and women—weavers, woodworker and leather artisans.
  • Immerse yourself in traditional Moroccan cuisine at Amal’s training kitchen in Marrakech under the guidance of women chefs-in-training. Then enjoy your creation for lunch.
  • Afterward, enjoy free time to wander the city’s markets, or relax at a traditional hammam, a quintessential Moroccan experience.

DAY 8
JEWISH STORIES IN THE MELLAH
Mon. Jan 18, 2027
  • Dialogue on the role of the Imam in Moroccan society, facilitated by a professor of English and a local Imam. This session will provide insight into the unique role of the Imam in Moroccan culture and the differences in Islamic practices in Morocco compared to other regions.
  • Wander through the Mellah, the historic Jewish quarter of Marrakech, filled with old synagogues and Jewish heritage sites.
  • Visit the Slat el Azama Synagogue, a still-active place of worship that holds deep historical significance for the local Jewish community.
  • Explore the Jewish Cemetery, where many of Morocco’s most prominent Jewish figures are laid to rest.
  • Free time for lunch and to refresh at your hotel.
  • Drive to the Agafay Desert, located south of Marrakech. This rocky desert offers a striking resemblance to the Sahara, with its vast dunes and breathtaking landscape. During your visit, you will experience:
    • A scenic camel ride through the stunning Agafay Desert.
    • A henna workshop, learning about this traditional art form used in many lifecycle events.
    • A private, festive dinner in a traditional Berber tent.
    • A leisurely walk through the desert to fully absorb the serene beauty of the surroundings.
  • Drive back to Marrakech.

DAY 9
JOURNEY INTO THE ATLAS MOUNTAINS AND BERBER HOSPITALITY

  • Begin the day with a scenic drive through the lush Sidi Abdellah Ghiat and Oued Maleh valleys, heading toward the majestic Atlas Mountains.
  • Stop at the grave of Rabbi Shlomo BelHench, a revered Jewish saint known as the “Son of the Snake,” and hear the legends surrounding his life and legacy.
  • Continue to a traditional Berber village nestled in the mountains, where you will be welcomed by the village chief and local musicians, offering you a warm taste of Berber hospitality.
  • Enjoy a home-cooked lunch in the village, with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, while learning about Berber culture and traditions from the chief.
  • Participate in a bread-making workshop, gaining hands-on experience with traditional Berber baking techniques.
  • After savoring this cultural experience and sharing reflections, head back to Marrakech and enjoy a leisurely evening to explore on your own.

    • Validity | All prices quoted are based on exchange rates as of the proposal date and are subject to change without notice. Rates are per person and are based on shared twin room occupancy.
    • How to Make a Reservation | The quickest way to make a reservation is to register online or contact us by email. We accept VISA, MasterCard, and American Express credit cards. A non-refundable deposit of $675 is required in order to complete the registration process.

  • Payments | The balance of your payment is due 120 days before your trip begins, or as specified in your invoice. You will receive an email reminder 2 weeks before this date. Various payment options are available as follows:
    • Credit card | We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Please check with your credit card provider regarding international processing fees. We are unable to process payments of over $1,000 over the phone. Please submit payment online via a credit card or by wiring funds via your bank.
    • Domestic bank wire transfer | Payment should be wired in the same currency that is listed on your invoice. Please add the name of your group or invoice number as a reference and forward a copy of the transfer receipt by email. The bank transfer should clearly state the beneficiary’s name on the wire transfer.
  • J² Adventures reserves the right to automatically cancel your reservation on that date and it may be subject to reconfirmation should the final payment not be received.
  • Cancelation Policy | All cancelations need to be made in writing. The cancelation fee depends on the date when we receive written notification of your request to cancel your booking. Please note that the deposit is non-refundable.
    • Cancelation fees | Cancelations made 120 or more days prior to departure incur the loss of the deposit. Cancelations made 119 to 46 days prior to departure incur the loss of 50% of the full trip cost. Cancelations made 45 days or less prior to the departure incur the loss of 100% of the full trip cost.
    • Cancelation fees may also include: Hotel or supplier cancelation fees. J² Adventures reserves the right to adjust its terms of payment, including cancelation policies and initial deposits.
