  • Depart the United States for Israel, embarking on a shared congregational journey of discovery, learning, and connection. As the group travels overnight, participants begin transitioning from daily life into a collective experience shaped by Jewish history, peoplehood, and place.

FIRST ENCOUNTERS: ARRIVAL IN ISRAEL
Sun. Feb 28, 2027
  • Arrive at Ben-Gurion International Airport and meet your J² Expert Educator, who will accompany the group throughout the journey. From the outset, the educator will help frame Israel through the lenses of education, resilience, and hope.
  • Begin with a stop at the Jaffa lookout, offering a sweeping panoramic introduction to Tel Aviv and the Mediterranean coast. This opening moment provides historical and geographic grounding, setting the stage for the days ahead.
  • Check into the hotel and take time to rest and acclimate after the overnight flight.
  • Dinner & Discussion – Understanding the Moment: Gather for a welcome dinner featuring a keynote speaker who will explore Israel’s current social and political realities. This opening conversation creates shared language and context, encouraging thoughtful dialogue as the journey begins.

DAY 3
VOICES, CREATIVITY, AND CONTEMPORARY JEWISH LIFE

  • Begin the day with a classic Israeli breakfast, showcasing the country’s rich agricultural bounty and diverse culinary influences.
  • Explore the Florentine neighborhood, where vibrant murals and street art serve as a living canvas for Israeli expression. Through these works, encounter how artists and communities are processing recent events, social change, and collective memory.
  • Continue to Levinsky Market, a hub of spices, sweets, and flavors from across the Mediterranean and Middle East. Through tastings and stories, the market becomes a lens into Israel’s immigrant cultures and evolving identity.
  • Visit the ANU – Museum of the Jewish People, a dynamic, newly reimagined institution that tells the global Jewish story. Through multimedia exhibits, explore Jewish diversity, creativity, and continuity from ancient times through the present day.
  • Pause at Hostages Square, a powerful civic space reflecting Israel’s ongoing struggle to bring every hostage home. This moment invites reflection on solidarity, activism, and national responsibility.

DAY 4
LIVING WITH UNCERTAINTY: ALONG THE GAZA BORDER

  • Check out of the hotel and travel south to the Israel–Gaza border region, an area that has become central to Israel’s recent history.
  • Meet Chen Kotler, a resident of Kibbutz Kfar Aza, who will share personal reflections on life near the border, recent trauma, and the resilience required to rebuild community after crisis.
  • Visit the Black Arrow Monument, commemorating Israeli soldiers who fell during Operation Black Arrow in 1955. The site offers historical context for the long and complex history of conflict in this region.
  • Stop in Sderot for lunch on your own and a brief walk through a city shaped by years of rocket fire, resilience, and determination.
  • Continue to the Nova Memorial near Kibbutz Re’im, a site of remembrance created by families and friends to honor lives lost and to affirm a commitment to human dignity and compassion.
  • Meet with Avi Dabush of Rabbis for Human Rights, whose work invites discussion about ethics, human rights, and Jewish moral responsibility in times of conflict.
  • Travel to Jerusalem and check into the hotel.

DAY 5
JERUSALEM: LAYERS OF FAITH AND PEOPLEHOOD

  • Begin with a visit to Yad LaKashish (Lifeline for the Elderly), where elderly immigrants create crafts and share their life stories. This encounter highlights dignity, purpose, and social responsibility in Israeli society.
  • Ascend to the Tower of David Museum, enjoying panoramic views of Jerusalem while exploring the city’s history through its newly renovated, state-of-the-art exhibits.
  • Enter the Jewish Quarter of the Old City, tracing Jewish life through ancient stones and winding alleys. Highlights include:
    • Visit the Jerusalem Archaeological Park, including the Davidson Center and Robinson’s Arch, to explore layers of history where Jewish life once flourished at the foot of the Temple Mount.
    • Step along the Cardo, the main thoroughfare of Roman Jerusalem, and imagine the city’s vibrant past as you stroll among its restored Byzantine-era columns.
    • Stand before King Hezekiah’s Broad Wall, an impressive 2,700-year-old structure that once defended Jerusalem and still stands as a symbol of endurance and faith.
    • Gather in Hurva Square, the lively center of Jewish life in the Old City, where history, community, and spirituality intertwine in the heart of the Jewish Quarter.
  • Continue into the Christian Quarter, guided by Hana Bendcowsky, Director of the Jerusalem Center for Jewish-Christian Relations, for an in-depth exploration of interreligious relationships and shared sacred space.

DAY 6
MEMORY, LAW, AND JEWISH VALUES
Thu. Mar 4, 2027
  • Meet Orly Erez Likhovski, Executive Director of the Israel Religious Action Center (IRAC), for a conversation on religious pluralism, civil rights, and the evolving relationship between religion and state in Israel. Visit the Supreme Court building, reflecting on Israeli judicial traditions and democratic values.
  • Visit Yad Vashem, Israel’s national Holocaust memorial. Through exhibitions, testimonies, the Hall of Names, and the Children’s Memorial, engage deeply with memory, loss, and moral responsibility.
  • Spend time at Mahane Yehuda Market, where Jerusalem’s diverse communities converge. The market’s sights, sounds, and flavors offer insight into everyday life and cultural exchange.
  • Conclude the day with guided discussions and site visits focused on the geopolitics of Jerusalem, exploring the tensions, hopes, and complexities shaping the city today.
  • Meet with a policy expert from Ir Amim, an organization dedicated to creating a more equitable and sustainable future for Jerusalem. Through an in-depth briefing, examine the political, demographic, and planning realities shaping the city, and explore how Jerusalem sits at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and ongoing efforts toward coexistence.

DAY 7
MASADA, THE DEAD SEA, AND WELCOMING SHABBAT
Fri. Mar 5, 2027
  • Option 1:
    • Travel to the Judean Desert and ascend Masada by cable car, learning the story of Jewish resistance and the legacy of courage and sacrifice during the Roman period.
    • Continue to the Dead Sea, floating effortlessly in the world’s lowest place and enjoying a moment of physical and spiritual renewal.
    • Return to Jerusalem to prepare for Shabbat.
  • Option 2:
    • Alternative Jerusalem Experience: For participants who prefer to remain in Jerusalem, enjoy a meaningful day of independent exploration in Israel’s capital. Suggested opportunities include returning to the Old City for personal reflection at the Western Wall or exploration of Mount Zion; strolling through the charming village neighborhood of Ein Kerem; walking the Haas Promenade (Tayelet) for panoramic views of the city; or spending relaxed time in Mamilla or along Emek Refaim in the German Colony. This optional day allows for rest, reflection, and deeper personal discovery in Jerusalem.
  • All:
    • In the evening, experience Kabbalat Shabbat and home hospitality with Kehilat Mevasseret Zion (Kamatz), led by Rabbi Lana Zilberman Soloway, offering a warm, authentic expression of Israeli Reform Jewish life.

DAY 8
SHABBAT OF LEARNING AND REFLECTION

  • Explore the Israel Museum, home to archaeological treasures, fine art, and Judaica spanning thousands of years, including the Shrine of the Book.
  • Engage in a dynamic text study at Hebrew Union College, guided by an HUC scholar, connecting classical sources with contemporary Reform Jewish thought.
  • As Shabbat draws to a close, gather for Havdalah overlooking the Old City, marking the transition from sacred time back into the week.
  • Conclude the journey with a farewell dinner and reflection session, sharing insights, blessings, and commitments for carrying the spirit of the trip back to the Temple Beth El community.

RETURNING HOME CHANGED

    • Validity | All prices quoted are based on exchange rates as of the proposal date and are subject to change without notice. Rates are per person and are based on shared twin room occupancy.
    • How to Make a Reservation | The quickest way to make a reservation is to register online or contact us by email. We accept VISA, MasterCard, and American Express credit cards. A non-refundable deposit of $675 is required in order to complete the registration process.

  • Payments | The balance of your payment is due 90 days before your trip begins, or as specified in your invoice. You will receive an email reminder 2 weeks before this date. Various payment options are available as follows:
    • Credit card | We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Please check with your credit card provider regarding international processing fees. We are unable to process payments of over $1,000 over the phone. Please submit payment online via a credit card or by wiring funds via your bank.
    • Domestic bank wire transfer | Payment should be wired in the same currency that is listed on your invoice. Please add the name of your group or invoice number as a reference and forward a copy of the transfer receipt by email. The bank transfer should clearly state the beneficiary’s name on the wire transfer.
  • J² Adventures reserves the right to automatically cancel your reservation on that date and it may be subject to reconfirmation should the final payment not be received.
  • Cancelation Policy | All cancelations need to be made in writing. The cancelation fee depends on the date when we receive written notification of your request to cancel your booking. Please note that the deposit is non-refundable.
    • Cancelation fees | Cancelations made 90 or more days prior to departure incur the loss of the deposit. Cancelations made 89 to 46 days prior to departure incur the loss of 50% of the full trip cost. Cancelations made 45 days or less prior to the departure incur the loss of 100% of the full trip cost.
    • Cancelation fees may also include: Hotel or supplier cancelation fees. J² Adventures reserves the right to adjust its terms of payment, including cancelation policies and initial deposits.
