DEPARTURE FOR THE HEART OF JEWISH CENTRAL EUROPE

- Depart from the U.S. on an overnight flight to Prague, embarking on a meaningful journey through the rich Jewish history, culture, and contemporary life of the Czech Republic.

DAY 2
THE GLORY OF JEWISH PRAGUE
Thu. Apr 1, 2027
- Arrive at Prague International Airport and transfer to your hotel, beginning your first encounter with a city whose streets, architecture, and Jewish landmarks preserve extraordinary layers of European history.
- Gather for an orientation lunch with your J² Expert Educator, who will accompany the group throughout this immersive journey, weaving together Jewish heritage, Czech history, contemporary life, and the personal stories that bring Prague’s past and present into focus.
- Take a walking tour and explore the sometimes glorious, sometimes tragic, past of Prague’s Jews with a visit to the Jewish Ghetto. From the 13th century, Jews could live only within the ghetto’s walls. In the 18th century, the ghetto was abolished and much of the area was destroyed. Nonetheless, important sites were safeguarded, making this perhaps the best area in Europe to experience how Jews once lived. Our visit will include:
- The Maisel Synagogue:The early 16th-century was a golden age for Prague’s Jews and the ghetto became famed for its intellectual and economic achievements. This synagogue was built to serve the growing Jewish population.
- The Pinkas Synagogue: Built in 1535, this fine synagogue is more evidence of the community’s prosperity. Today, it also serves as a poignant memorial to a darker period for Czech Jews with tributes to victims of the Holocaust and an exhibition of art produced by children in the Terezin camp just outside Prague.
- The Old Jewish Cemetery: For 300 years, the ghetto’s Jews were buried here. This cemetery is a place to mourn but also to celebrate the diversity and achievements of Prague’s Jews. The Talmudic scholar and mystic Rabbi Judah Loew (known as the Maharal) is buried here alongside the 16th-century scientist David Gans and the Gershom family, pioneers of printing.
- The Altneushul: Europe’s oldest synagogue is a treasure trove of stories of golems and great rabbis. Find out why a synagogue built in 1250 was originally named the New Synagogue and is now known as the Old-New Synagogue.
- Settle into your hotel with time to unpack, refresh, and absorb the atmosphere of Prague before continuing your exploration of the city.
- Wander through the magnificent Old Town Square, Prague’s historic gathering place since the Middle Ages, surrounded by Gothic towers, Baroque façades, and centuries of civic history. See the celebrated Astronomical Clock, admire examples of Prague’s Art Nouveau heritage, and encounter the monument to Jan Hus while considering why this religious reformer remains such an important symbol of Czech identity and conscience.
- Enjoy dinner on your own, with an opportunity to discover Prague’s restaurant scene and experience the city independently on your first evening.

DAY 3
REMEMBERING THE PAST, CELEBRATING LIFE

- The Forgotten Stories of the Terezin Ghetto: A powerful dialogue with Holocaust educator and historian Pavel Batel, co-founder and Head of Research & Education at the Batel Institute for Jewish History, an organization dedicated to preserving the memory of the Terezin Ghetto through survivor testimony, archival research, and educational programming.
- Depart the hotel and drive to Terezin (Theresienstadt), the ghetto-camp established here during World War Two where over 100,000 thousand Jews were worked to death or sent to extermination camps in the East. Our visit to Terezin will include:
- The Historical Exhibition which explains the history of the camp and its role in Hitler’s Final Solution.
- Chilling propaganda movies made by the Nazis which were designed to convince the world that Terezin was a spa town and retirement center for elderly Jews rather than a death-ridden way station to the extermination camps.
- A reconstruction of the overcrowded dormitory and other parts of the camp complex.
- The Hidden Synagogue that an inmate, Artur Berlanger, created out of a tiny storage space.
- A memorial service where we’ll remember those who died here as well as the more than 80,000 Jews who were sent to be killed in Auschwitz and elsewhere in the East.
- Pause for a group lunch en route, allowing time to process the morning’s experiences and continue conversations together.
- Return to Prague with time to rest and refresh as the pace of the week gives way to the rhythms of Shabbat.
- Welcome Shabbat alongside the progressive Jewish community of Ec Chajim, joining Rabbi Maxa and local congregants for Kabbalat Shabbat and experiencing firsthand the vitality of contemporary Jewish life in Prague.
- Share a festive Shabbat dinner with Rabbi Maxa and members of Ec Chajim, deepening the relationship between the communities through conversation about Jewish identity, pluralism, continuity, and the ongoing revitalization of Jewish life in the Czech Republic.

DAY 4
THE CITY OF 100 SPIRES

- Board one of Prague’s historic trams for a scenic journey from the Old Town across the Vltava River to Malá Strana, the Lesser Town, gradually climbing toward the commanding heights of Prague Castle.
- Discover the vast Prague Castle complex, taking in panoramic views across the celebrated “City of a Hundred Spires” and strolling along the colorful Golden Lane, where centuries of royal, religious, and everyday life intersect.
- Meander through the picturesque lanes and hidden courtyards of Malá Strana, one of Prague’s most atmospheric neighborhoods, filled with Baroque architecture, gardens, palaces, and centuries-old streets.
- Pause at the famous John Lennon Wall, a constantly evolving canvas of graffiti, art, music, and messages of peace that became an unofficial symbol of freedom of expression during Communist rule.
- Cross the iconic Charles Bridge, admiring its statues, river vistas, and remarkable skyline while stopping at the crucifix bearing a Hebrew inscription, an opportunity to confront a complicated chapter in Prague’s Jewish-Christian history and consider how public monuments carry layers of memory.
- Cruise along the Vltava River and through the Čertovka Canal, discovering Prague from the water as bridges, historic buildings, hidden waterways, and picturesque riverbanks reveal a quieter and enchanting perspective on the city.
- Relish an evening at leisure to experience Prague’s magical atmosphere on your own, whether strolling through illuminated streets, attending a cultural performance, lingering over dinner, or relaxing in one of the city’s historic cafés.

PRAGUE: HISTORY, MEMORY & FAREWELL

- Check out of the hotel and prepare for a final day of exploration, bringing together themes of Czech identity, artistic expression, resistance, and memory before your departure.
- Take a guided exploration of Prague's Old Town and New Town, discovering the stories hidden within one of Europe's most beautiful capitals. As we walk through historic squares, winding streets, and elegant boulevards, we'll encounter some of the city's most iconic landmarks and striking examples of modern architecture. The tour will includes stops at:
- The Mosaic House: A striking example of Prague's contemporary urban renewal and creative architectural spirit.
- The Franz Kafka Head: David Černý's fascinating kinetic sculpture of Prague's most famous writer, whose constantly shifting layers create a mesmerizing portrait.
- The National Theatre: A symbol of Czech national identity and cultural revival, whose construction became a source of immense national pride.
- The The Dancing House: One of Prague's most recognizable modern buildings, affectionately known as "Fred and Ginger" for its resemblance to a dancing couple.
- Visit the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, the site of the final stand of the Czech and Slovak resistance fighters who carried out the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich during World War II. Through the memorial exhibition and crypt, we will explore one of the most dramatic episodes of resistance against Nazi occupation and reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those involved.
- Gather for a Farewell Lunch, offering an opportunity to celebrate the experiences shared throughout the journey, strengthen friendships, and enjoy one final meal together in Prague. Together, we'll discuss key moments, memorable encounters, and the lessons we will carry home.
- Transfer as a group to Prague International Airport for your evening flight, bidding farewell to the Czech Republic after a journey shaped by history, friendship, remembrance, and renewed Jewish connection.

- Validity | All prices quoted are based on exchange rates as of the proposal date and are subject to change without notice. Rates are per person and are based on double occupancy room.
- How to Make a Reservation | The quickest way to make a reservation is to register online or contact us by email. We accept VISA, MasterCard, and American Express credit cards. A non-refundable deposit of $675 is required in order to complete the registration process.

- Payments | The balance of your payment is due 90 days before your trip begins, or as specified in your invoice. You will receive an email reminder 2 weeks before this date. Various payment options are available as follows:
- Credit card | We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Please check with your credit card provider regarding international processing fees. We are unable to process payments of over $1,000 over the phone. Please submit payment online via a credit card or by wiring funds via your bank.
- Domestic bank wire transfer | Payment should be wired in the same currency that is listed on your invoice. Please add the name of your group or invoice number as a reference and forward a copy of the transfer receipt by email. The bank transfer should clearly state the beneficiary’s name on the wire transfer.
- J² Adventures reserves the right to automatically cancel your reservation on that date and it may be subject to reconfirmation should the final payment not be received.
- Cancelation Policy | All cancelations need to be made in writing. The cancelation fee depends on the date when we receive written notification of your request to cancel your booking. Please note that the deposit is non-refundable.
- Cancelation fees | Cancelations made 90 or more days prior to departure incur the loss of the deposit. Cancelations made 89 to 46 days prior to departure incur the loss of 50% of the full trip cost. Cancelations made 45 days or less prior to the departure incur the loss of 100% of the full trip cost.
- Cancelation fees may also include: Hotel or supplier cancelation fees. J² Adventures reserves the right to adjust its terms of payment, including cancelation policies and initial deposits.
