FIRST STEPS IN SPAIN

  • Bienvenidos. Welcome to Spain and Madrid. Arrival at the Madrid International Airport.
  • Meet your local guide and tour educator, who will accompany you throughout your Spanish journey. Your introduction to Spain’s history, culture, and flavors begins here.
  • Begin your journey at the Garden of Three Cultures, where the history of Madrid’s Jewish, Christian, and Muslim heritages unfolds. This tranquil setting offers a reflective introduction to the "intertwining vines" of history.
  • Start your immersion into Spanish history with a panoramic bus tour, providing a broad "lay of the land" as we trace the timeline of Madrid’s evolution from a fortress town to a global capital. We will then transition to the heart of the city to explore the iconic Puerta del Sol and the majestic Plaza de España, featuring the grand monument to Miguel de Cervantes and his legendary characters - Don Quixote and Sancho Panza.
  • Lunch on Your Own. Take a break and enjoy Madrid. Grab a table at a sunny plaza, or pop into a local café for something tasty. Relax and savor the flavors that catch your eye.

RECLAIMING JEWISH ROOTS IN TOLEDO

  • Depart Madrid early for Toledo, the former imperial capital and one of medieval Spain’s most important centers of Jewish, Muslim, and Christian life.
  • Take in sweeping views of Toledo from the bridge before ascending on foot into the historic Jewish Quarter.
  • Set in the heart of Toledo’s old Jewish Quarter, Santa María la Blanca is a serene and striking 12th‑century synagogue whose whitewashed arches and elegant Mudejar design create an atmosphere of quiet beauty. Today, its forest of graceful columns and horseshoe arches stands as a poignant reminder of a once-vibrant Sephardic community.
  • Commissioned in the 14th century by Samuel ha‑Levi, El Tránsito is one of the finest examples of Castilian‑Mudejar artistry. Its soaring hall is adorned with breathtaking stucco work, geometric motifs, and flowing Hebrew inscriptions—an architectural celebration of Jewish learning and devotion at its height in medieval Toledo.
  • Break for lunch on your own in a lively public square before returning to Madrid.
  • Located in one of Madrid's most beautiful parks, The Temple of Debod is an ancient Egyptian Temple brought to Madrid. Explore the site - an atmospheric and inspiring site - providing us with a chance to trace our Jewish stories through the ages.
  • Return to your hotel with time to prepare for Shabbat.
  • Shabbat Shalom! Welcome Shabbat with the local Conservative community, Comunidad Judia Masorti Bet-El Madrid, for Kabbalat Shabbat services and a shared Friday night dinner.

SHABBAT IN MADRID

  • Walk along Madrid’s famed Paseo del Arte, the museum district that unites the Prado, Thyssen‑Bornemisza, and Reina Sofía museums along a nearly two‑kilometer cultural corridor, recognized by UNESCO in 2021 as part of the Landscape of Light, which includes the Paseo del Prado and El Retiro Park.
  • View Pablo Picasso’s Guernica at the Reina Sofia, one of the 20th century’s most powerful artistic statements confronting war, suffering, and moral responsibility.
  • Explore the Museo Nacional del Prado, with a highlight on how the Hebrew Bible shaped European art, with works such as 'David Defeats Goliath' and scenes of Moses, including 'Moses and the Brazen Serpent.'
  • Whether you would like to continue in the Prado on your own or visit one of the other museums in the culture quarter, or head out to explore the Madrid's shopping hub - The Gran Via - enjoy your time and make your own adventure.

SEVILLE - THE PEARL OF ANDALUSIA

  • Check out from your Madrid hotel and travel by high speed AVE train to Seville.
  • As the train glides south from Madrid, watch rolling plains dotted with olive groves and vineyards stretch toward distant hills, while whitewashed villages peek through golden fields. Occasional glimpses of rivers and rugged sierras add drama to the view, offering a taste of Andalusia’s beauty before you even arrive.
  • Welcome to Seville - Andalusia’s vibrant capital. Head to the magnificent Seville Cathedral, one of the world’s largest Gothic churches, and take in the soaring Giralda tower—a true symbol of the city’s history and charm.
  • Explore Seville and find a restaurant or cafe to have a bite, people watch, and relax before the next leg of our Spanish journey.
  • Step into the Plaza de España - one of Seville’s most stunning landmarks, a sweeping semi-circular plaza adorned with colorful ceramic tiles and graceful bridges. Take time for a photo opp along the ornate balustrades or by the fountain—the perfect backdrop to capture the city’s charm.
  • Depart Seville and continue through Andalusia to Cordoba.
  • Arrive in Cordoba, long known as La Ciudad de las Tres Culturas, the City of Three Faiths, where Jewish, Muslim, and Christian life once intersected at the height of medieval civilization.

  • Visit Casa de Sefarad, an intimate cultural center dedicated to the memory and creativity of Spain’s Sephardic Jews. Enjoy a moving musical presentation of Sephardic poetry, song, and prayer—an evocative window into a world that once flourished in Córdoba’s Judería (Jewish Quarter).
  • Pause at Córdoba’s Plaza Tiberias, where the statue of Moses Maimonides honors one of our greatest sages. Just steps away, visit the beautifully preserved medieval synagogue—one of only three remaining in Spain - offering a rare glimpse into the spiritual and communal life of Jewish Córdoba.
  • Break for lunch on your own in a lively public square.

ALONG THE ROUTE OF THE CALIPHATE

Today its winding streets, lively plazas, and the Sephardic Museum evoke the spirit of a neighborhood shaped by scholars like Samuel Ibn Naghrillah and Judah Ibn Tibbon.
  • Wander through the Albaicín, Granada’s atmospheric Muslim quarter, a UNESCO World Heritage site where narrow cobblestone lanes, whitewashed houses, and hidden courtyards preserve the medieval layout of Nasrid‑era Granada.     • Validity | All prices quoted are based on exchange rates as of the proposal date and are subject to change without notice. Rates are per person and are based on shared twin room occupancy.
    • How to Make a Reservation | The quickest way to make a reservation is to register online or contact us by email. We accept VISA, MasterCard, and American Express credit cards. A non-refundable deposit of $675 is required in order to complete the registration process.

  • Payments | The balance of your payment is due 125 days before your trip begins, or as specified in your invoice. You will receive an email reminder 2 weeks before this date. Various payment options are available as follows:
    • Credit card | We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Please check with your credit card provider regarding international processing fees. We are unable to process payments of over $1,000 over the phone. Please submit payment online via a credit card or by wiring funds via your bank.
    • Domestic bank wire transfer | Payment should be wired in the same currency that is listed on your invoice. Please add the name of your group or invoice number as a reference and forward a copy of the transfer receipt by email. The bank transfer should clearly state the beneficiary’s name on the wire transfer.
  • J² Adventures reserves the right to automatically cancel your reservation on that date and it may be subject to reconfirmation should the final payment not be received.
  • Cancelation Policy | All cancelations need to be made in writing. The cancelation fee depends on the date when we receive written notification of your request to cancel your booking. Please note that the deposit is non-refundable.
    • Cancelation fees | Cancelations made 125 or more days prior to departure incur the loss of the deposit. Cancelations made 124 to 46 days prior to departure incur the loss of 50% of the full trip cost. Cancelations made 45 days or less prior to the departure incur the loss of 100% of the full trip cost.
    • Cancelation fees may also include: Hotel or supplier cancelation fees. J² Adventures reserves the right to adjust its terms of payment, including cancelation policies and initial deposits.
