YOUR journey

J² crafts journeys of inspiration, education, and Jewish connections to Israel and worldwide. We are guided by a simple but powerful concept: No two trips are the same; each experience should be personal, meaningful, and backed by superb service. Travel is not just about the places you visit, but the connections you make along the way.

Wed. Oct 28, 2026
  • Check out of the hotel.
  • Drive to Terezín (Theresienstadt), the ghetto-camp that served as a tragic way station to extermination camps during the Holocaust. Your visit will include:
    • The Historical Exhibition which explains the history of the camp and its role in Hitler’s Final Solution.
    • Chilling propaganda movies made by the Nazis which were designed to convince the world that Terezin was a spa town and retirement center for elderly Jews rather than a death-ridden way station to the extermination camps.
    • A reconstruction of the overcrowded dormitory and other parts of the camp complex.
    • The Hidden Synagogue that an inmate, Artur Berlanger, created out of a tiny storage space.
    • A memorial service where we’ll remember those who died here as well as the more than 80,000 Jews who were sent to be killed in Auschwitz and elsewhere in the East.

DAY 5
BERLIN: HISTORY, MEMORY & RECKONING
Thu. Oct 29, 2026
  • Begin with an introductory exploration of Berlin, including:
    • The Brandenburg Gate, Berlin's best-known landmark, now stands as a symbol of the city's reunification.
    • The Bundestag: Explore Germany’s traumatic political past and prosperous present as we stop in front of the German Federal Parliament.
    • The Monument to the Murdered Jews of Europe. Designed by architect Peter Eisenman, this undulating field of thousands of concrete dark gray slabs forms a rising wave, designed to give visitors a sense of imbalance and loss of orientation.
  • Walk along Unter der Linden and pass by the famous Humboldt University. Stop to visit the Book Burning Memorial at Bebel Square, marking the Nazi attempt to recast German and European culture in their own twisted image by destroying books of the world's finest authors.
  • Walk the grounds and sculpture gardens of Berlin's Museum Island. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Museum Island Campus is a central backdrop to Berlin’s becoming an international cultural hub. Whether you are an archeology buff or a lover of 19th-century European art, you will find your inspiration on Museum Island.
  • Free time for lunch.
  • Enjoy a free afternoon on Museum Island, with time to explore its world-class museums at your own pace
Overnight: Berlin Meals: Breakfast
DAY 6
THE FINAL SOLUTION, RESISTANCE & COURAGE
Fri. Oct 30, 2026
  • “Jews May No Longer Own Pets”: In a city of Holocaust memorials, the Places of Remembrance is perhaps the most controversial. Hung, seemingly randomly, on street lampposts in the Bavarian Quarter are 80 signs that highlight anti-Jewish laws and regulations established by the Nazis. These signs push passersby to contemplate the almost-forgotten history of this neighborhood, which was once home to prominent Jewish intellectuals, including Albert Einstein and Hannah Arendt.
  • Stop at the Glienicke Bridge - the “Bridge of Spies” - where prisoners were exchanged during the Cold War, including Natan Sharansky.
  • Visit the Wannsee Villa, site of the 1942 “Final Solution” conference, with a private introduction from the Memorial Site’s staff.
  • Lunch at a local restaurant.
  • Continue to Gleis 17 (Track 17), the former deportation site for Berlin’s Jews, now a powerful memorial.
  • Return to the hotel and prepare for Shabbat.
  • Shabbat Services at the Reform Pestalozzistraße Synagogue, followed by Shabbat dinner with the community. Engage with Rabbi Jonah Sievers about Jewish life in Germany today and the future of progressive Judaism.
Overnight: Berlin Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
DAY 7
ART, SPIRIT, & THE REBIRTH OF JEWISH BERLIN
Sat. Oct 31, 2026
  • Explore the Jewish Quarter and its profound history, including:
    • Hackescher Market: In 1671, 200 Jews fleeing persecution elsewhere in Europe were allowed to move to an area just outside Berlin’s Old City walls. We’ll see this area – which is now a hotbed of entertainment and nightlife – and discuss the development of Jewish life in Berlin.
    • The New Synagogue and Centrum Judaicum: This richly ornamented synagogue, which once seated 3,000 people, is an impressive example of the size, prosperity, and confidence of Berlin’s Liberal Jewish community in the 19th century. We’ll learn how the synagogue was saved from destruction during the Kristallnacht pogrom and today is once again a center of German Jewish culture.
    • The Jewish Cemetery: From the late 17th century, this was where many of Berlin’s Jews were buried. It was bulldozed by the Gestapo in 1943. We’ll view the recently restored tombstone of Moses Mendelssohn, the great philosopher, and discuss his influence on German and Jewish life and thought.
    • We’ll stop outside the home of Rabbi Regina Jonas, the first woman to be ordained as a rabbi, and discuss her pioneering life, her death in Auschwitz, and the role Berlin played in reforming Judaism for a modern age.
    • We’ll also past by two important reminders of German resistance to the Holocaust. The Museum of Otto Weidt’s Workshop for the Blind honors the man who risked his life during World War II to hide and protect Jewish workers in his broom and brush workshop.
    • The Rosenstrasse Sculpture commemorates the successful 1943 protests against Nazi plans to deport the last remaining Jews from Berlin. The protest was led by non-Jewish women seeking to protect their Jewish spouses from persecution.
  • Free time for lunch.
  • Stop at Checkpoint Charlie, one of the best-known crossing points between East and West Berlin during the Cold War, frequently featured in spy movies and books.
  • Visit the Jewish Museum of Berlin, designed by architect Daniel Libeskind. One of the most conspicuous architectural landmarks in the city, it embodies remembrance, melancholy, and departure.
  • Time permitting: Stop at the East Side Gallery, the longest preserved stretch of the Berlin Wall, featuring murals including tributes to German-Israeli friendship
  • Conclude Shabbat with a group Havdalah and a festive closing dinner, reflecting on the week’s journey.
Overnight: Berlin Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
DAY 8
RETURN HOME
Sun. Nov 1, 2026
  • Check out of the hotel.
  • Transfer to Berlin Brandenburg Airport for your return flight to the United States.
Overnight: Flight Meals: Breakfast
