YOUR journey

This November, join National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) for a transformative leadership journey, experiencing Israel through a feminist lens. Grounded in our commitment to justice and equity, and featuring unique insights from NCJW’s field building work on the ground, this experience will focus on Israel’s road ahead — recovery and rebuilding  — while deepening relationships with our partners shaping the future.

Based in Tel Aviv, with travel to the south and time in Jerusalem, we will meet with courageous Jewish and Palestinian leaders of Israeli civil society, bear witness to the impact of October 7, hear from survivors, and engage in meaningful cultural experiences. Participants will leave this immersive experience with a deeper understanding of the complexity of this moment, an appreciation for the resilience and strength of the Israeli people, and the knowledge that they are part of an essential and dedicated organization that continues to serve as a champion everywhere for the benefit of women, children, and families.

DAY 1
WELCOME TO ISRAEL
Sun. Nov 2, 2025
  • Check into the hotel. Rooms are available for check in from 3:00 p.m.
  • Our Leadership Journey to Israel begins with a warm welcome that will be nourishing, inspiring, and thought provoking. We’ll begin by asking tough questions to the experts about the impact of the war, the erosion of democracy, and women’s leadership and influence. Prepare to be grounded in purpose, courage, and connection.
  • 4:45 p.m. Meet in the downstairs lobby of the hotel to begin our journey.
  • Together with Rabbi Naomi Efrat, we'll walk to the beach for a chance to take in the view and bring in our experience as a group.
  • Return to the hotel for a private welcome dinner at the hotel. During dinner we'll discuss the week to come, together with NCJW staff and Rabbi Lana Zilberman Soloway, our J2 Expert Educator.
  • We'll hear from Ambassador Meirav Eilon Shahar, Israel's permanent representative to the UN in Geneva, and Nadav Tamir, former Israeli diplomat and current Israel Executive Director of J Street.

DAY 2
UNDERSTANDING ISRAEL THROUGH GRASSROOTS LEADERSHIP
Mon. Nov 3, 2025
  • Over the past three years, Israelis have mobilized with determination: to defend democracy, demand the return of the hostages, and call for an end to the war. Together, we will visit key sites and engage with leaders at the heart of the struggles, exploring how women are leading the way in meeting this moment, and shaping and sustaining these movements for change.
  • 9:00 a.m. Strategic Analysis of this Moment Through a Gender Lens: Gather at the hotel to hear Prof. Dafna Hacker discuss the complex social, political, and security landscape of Israel today - through a gender lens.
  • Visit Hostages Square – a major site of public activism about the struggle for the Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza and the trauma of the October 7th War. Today, the square honors the return home of the last living captives while calling for the sacred task of bringing home the bodies of those murdered for proper burial.
  • From Grief to Action: The Stories of Hostage Square
  • The session will explore the powerful story of how a movement of families and supporters turned their anguish into collective action following the hostage crisis. We’ll hear firsthand about the experience of those directly affected, and the organizing that led to the creation of Hostage Square - an unprecedented public space of advocacy, community, and art. Through personal testimony and reflection, we’ll examine how trauma, determination, and appeals to the human spirit have intersected in the fight to bring loved ones home and keep their stories at center of national and global attention.
  • Group lunch on the go.
  • Speakers Session: A New Generation of Grassroots Feminist Leadership
  • In this session, we’ll hear from leading Israeli voices who are advancing gender equity, civic engagement, and democracy during one of the most complex moments in Israel’s history. They’ll share how women are shaping public discourse, driving advocacy, and galvanizing communities amid uncertainty — and what global allies can learn from their resilience and creativity. Together, we’ll explore how personal leadership and collective action intersect in Israel today, and what it means to lead with courage and conviction in times of challenge and change.
  • Debrief the day together as a group followed by some free time in Tel Aviv Port.
  • Connecting for Impact Gathering
  • We are delighted to be hosting a dinner gathering and evening of celebration and appreciation with civil society leaders and philanthropic partners in the Connecting for Impact (CFI) Collaborative Initiatives. We will meet NCJW’s key partners who together are spearheading the evolution of our flagship program into a field-building platform driving the collective impact of the Israeli feminist field. Together, we will learn about and discuss the extraordinary work being done to strengthen Israel’s future through the CFI Impact Clusters, and explore ways to engage new stakeholders in this groundbreaking work.
Overnight: Tel Aviv Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
DAY 3
TRAUMA, RESILIENCE & RECOVERY THROUGH A GENDER LENS
Tue. Nov 4, 2025
  • We’ll bear witness to the events of October 7 and their lasting impact on Israeli communities and the women that lead them. We will explore stories of loss, resilience, and rebuilding, with a particular emphasis on the gender dimensions of October 7 and its impact. We’ll have conversations with grassroots leaders, trauma experts and peace activists that will highlight both the urgency of response and the possibilities for healing and change.
  • 7:30 a.m. Depart Tel Aviv and drive south towards the Gaza Envelope.
  • From Crisis to Accountability
  • Ayelet Razin is a leading Israeli advocate whose work since October 7 has centered on documenting and pursuing justice for gender-based violence committed during the attacks. As part of The Dinah Project, she has helped gather evidence, amplify survivors’ voices, and combat denial surrounding the atrocities at the Nova Festival and beyond. In this session, she will share insights from the intersection of law, activism, and trauma recovery—showing how truth-telling and advocacy can shape accountability in Israel and worldwide. Participants will come away with a deeper understanding of the power of justice-driven leadership amid crisis.
  • Take a guided walk through Kibbutz Kfar Aza, devastated by October 7th attacks. Meet residents who share stories of their lives before, during, and after the tragic events. Gain insight into their journey of recovery and the rebuilding efforts shaping their future.
  • The Nova music festival next to Kibbutz Re'im was meant to be a weekend of joy and celebration. 364 of the festival goers were murdered. 40 men and women were taken hostage by the Hamas. The memorial was established by the families and friends of the murdered. It bears tribute and call on all of us to work so that such horrors will not be repeated.
  • Visit Givat HaTaspitaniot (Lookout Observers Hill) and hear stories about women in the military and those affected by the October 7 tragedy, reflecting on themes of equity and leadership in Israeli military culture.
  • Eden Association specializes in treating post-trauma amongst girls and women and has been operating since 1997 in the Gaza Envelope and the Negev. The association develops and implements programs, frameworks, and projects based on the Eden Model – a unique model for trauma treatment. Eden’s CEO, Ronit Shoval, will welcome us to the center and share insights from the Eden model and the ways in which Eden has expanded its reach and impact significantly since Oct 7 - including through the use of art and video testimonies. Ronit believes in the importance of feminist models and approaches to addressing the post-October 7 trauma crisis at large, and towards that end has taken a lead role in the CFI “Resilience Cluster” with three other feminist organizations, who together aim to launch a Training and Knowledge Hub for professionals serving women at risk. She will offer a deeper dive into her vision for the Center and how the growth of Eden in recent years inspired this vision.
  • Over lunch, we will explore the art exhibit at the site called “October 7th HerPhoto.” Created and curated by the Eden Association, it features portraits of Israeli women whose lives were deeply affected by the October 7 attacks. Each image was developed collaboratively between the artist and the participant as part of a healing and empowerment process. The exhibit gives visual and emotional expression to women’s experiences of trauma and resilience, combining photography and testimony to confront denial and reclaim voice.
  • Bridging Voices: Transforming Trauma into Hope
  • Join us for a dynamic panel conversation featuring four women deeply impacted by October 7 and the war, who are shaping resilient communities, advancing peacebuilding, and driving social innovation in the face of challenge. Through sharing their personal stories and initiatives that they have led, they’ll reflect on how women’s leadership continues to rebuild hope, connection, and strength across divides. This session explores how courage and collaboration can transform adversity into action, and how a more inclusive, compassionate future is already being created on the ground.
  • Return to Tel Aviv with time for dinner on your own.
Overnight: Tel Aviv Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
DAY 4
WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP AND INFLUENCE AT CENTERS OF DECISION MAKING
Wed. Nov 5, 2025
  • This day will immerse us in the heart of Israeli democracy, exploring both its institutions and the women shaping its future. We will engage with thought leaders, lawmakers, and activists to explore the challenges and opportunities facing Israel today. Conversations will highlight how women are advancing equality, influencing policy, and building bridges across divides.
  • 8:00 a.m. Depart Tel Aviv for the day and travel to Jerusalem.
  • Democracy and Gender Equity: Advocacy Briefing
  • This session will bring together leading voices from key civil society organizations to explore the intersection of democracy, advocacy and gender equity. We’ll hear perspectives on strengthening democratic institutions and advancing women’s rights and political representation, with an emphasis on priority issues as we look towards upcoming Israeli elections. Together, these leaders will highlight how diverse civil society organizations are driving change and shaping Israel’s democratic future, and how they are working collaboratively through the Gender Policy Forum initiated by the Connecting for Impact Decisionmaking Cluster.
  • Visit the Knesset with our advocacy partners, and meet with MKs who are leading the struggle for equity in policy and representation. Our visit will include lunch with MKs (pending final confirmation) and a tour of the Knesset.
  • Tour and Meeting with Justice Daphna Barak Erez
  • We will visit Israel’s Supreme Court for an in-depth look at one of the country’s most influential institutions. This session includes a guided tour of the Court, exploring the way transparency is built into everything the court does. Following the tour, we’ll meet with Justice Daphna Barak Erez, a leading voice on constitutional law, human rights, and democratic governance. Together, we’ll discuss the evolving role of Israel’s judiciary, current challenges to the rule of law, and how the courts shape the nation’s democratic future.
  • Shared Tables, Shared Futures: A Conversation Over Dinner
  • Following a full day considering questions around women’s leadership and influence at Israeli centers of decisionmaking, we move to a unique Jewish-Palestinian shared space, “FeelBeit”. There, we will be joined by special guests for a session over dinner exploring women’s leadership and influence in Palestinian society, in peacebuilding efforts, and the intersection between the peacebuilding field and the feminist field.
  • After a day hearing from a variety of leaders who work in the advocacy space, over dinner, we’ll gather for an intimate conversation with women who are building bridges across divides and reimagining what shared society can look like in Israel today through relationship and community building. From grassroots peacebuilding to storytelling and civic leadership, our speakers bring perspectives that highlight dialogue, empathy, and the everyday acts of courage that sustain the vision for a shared future. This evening will offer space for honest reflection and renewed connection — reminding us that even in difficult times, the simple act of coming together around a table can be a radical gesture toward understanding and a shared future.

DAY 5
FROM VISION TO ACTION

Eynat will share insights from her research, “Where Fabric Culture and Cyber Culture Merge: Craftswomen Stitching Together Identity, Community, and Culture.”
  • Looking to the Future with the NCJW Women & Gender Studies Program at Tel Aviv University

This session will offer space to share key moments, insights, and emotions from our experience—honoring both the complexity and the hope we’ve encountered. Together, we’ll explore how what we’ve seen and learned can inform our leadership, advocacy, and community work back home. This isn’t just a closing—it’s a conversation about where we go from here and how we carry this experience forward, as individuals and as a collective committed to justice and connection.
