ARRIVAL IN ATHENS: WELCOME TO GREECE

- Arrive in Athens in the late afternoon, where your J² team will welcome you to Greece and begin an inspiring journey through the rich history, resilience, and contemporary life of Greek Jewry.
- Private transfer from Athens International Airport to your centrally located hotel.
- After time to settle in and relax, gather for an opening orientation introducing the themes of the journey, including Sephardic heritage, Jewish continuity, Holocaust memory, and the enduring connections between Jewish communities across the globe.
- Enjoy a welcome dinner featuring traditional Greek cuisine and an opportunity to meet fellow travelers as you begin exploring the remarkable story of Greek Jewry.

JEWISH ATHENS, COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP & SHABBAT

- Today’s exploration focuses on the vibrant Jewish life of contemporary Athens, examining how one of Europe’s oldest Jewish communities balances tradition, education, communal responsibility, and international engagement.
- Begin with a curator-led visit to the Jewish Museum of Greece with Zanet Battinou, offering an in-depth exploration of more than 2,000 years of Jewish presence in Greece through rare artifacts, religious objects, photographs, and personal testimonies.
- Meet with the Israeli Ambassador to Greece for a discussion on Greece-Israel relations, regional developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, and the growing strategic partnership between the two countries.
- Visit the Lauder School of Athens, one of the most important institutions supporting Jewish education in Greece. Meet with school leadership, faculty, and students for a conversation about Jewish identity, education, communal continuity, and the experiences of Jewish youth growing up in modern Greece.
- Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
- As Shabbat approaches, visit Beth Shalom Synagogue, the center of Athens’ Ashkenazi Jewish community and a symbol of post-war Jewish renewal.
- Participate in Kabbalat Shabbat services with Rabbi Gabriel Negrin and members of the local Jewish community.

- Upon arrival, begin exploring the remarkable island of Rhodes, whose strategic location at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa shaped centuries of Jewish, Greek, Byzantine, Crusader, and Ottoman history.
- Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
- Explore the magnificent Palace of the Grand Master, one of the finest surviving examples of medieval Crusader architecture in Europe.
- Walk the historic Street of the Knights, lined with the former inns of the Knights Hospitaller.
- Visit Mandraki Harbor, traditionally associated with the legendary Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

- Today is devoted to exploring the rich Sephardic heritage of Rhodes, whose descendants established vibrant Jewish communities around the world, including Seattle, home to one of the largest Rhodesli Jewish communities outside the Mediterranean.
- Visit the Jewish Cemetery of Rhodes, one of the best-preserved Jewish cemeteries in Europe.
- Explore Kahal Shalom Synagogue, built in 1577 and considered the oldest functioning synagogue in Greece.
- Visit the Jewish Museum of Rhodes, preserving the traditions, customs, and memories of the island's once-thriving Jewish community.
- Walk through the historic Jewish Quarter and learn about daily life in Rhodes before the Holocaust.
- Experience the enduring spirit of Sephardic Rhodes with an intimate evening concert at the historic Kahal Shalom Synagogue, where local musicians perform traditional Ladino songs that preserve the language, melodies, and cultural heritage of the island's once-thriving Jewish community.

- Fly to Thessaloniki, once home to one of the largest and most influential Sephardic Jewish communities in the world. For centuries, the city served as a center of Jewish scholarship, commerce, Ladino culture, and Sephardic religious life.
- Explore the charming cobblestone streets and traditional Macedonian architecture of Ano Poli, Thessaloniki’s historic upper town, on a guided walking tour rich with stories from the Byzantine and Ottoman eras.
- Enjoy panoramic views of the city and the Thermaic Gulf while discovering hidden gems, including historic churches, fortress walls, and tucked-away neighborhood corners.
- Participate in a hands-on Sephardic cooking workshop that brings to life the culinary traditions of Greece’s historic Jewish communities. Guided by a local expert, explore recipes that reflect centuries of Sephardic heritage, shaped by Mediterranean ingredients, Ladino culture, and the unique history of Greek Jewry. - From the Monastiriotes Synagogue to the Yad L’Zikaron Synagogue, encounter the diversity of Jewish life that once flourished in Thessaloniki, reflected in the institutions, traditions, and stories preserved within this historic neighborhood.
- As we make our way through the winding streets, visit the Jewish Museum of Thessaloniki and the Holocaust Memorial dedicated to the 72,000 Jews of Greece murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators.
- When is a mosque Jewish? Visit the Yeni Mosque, built for the Dönmeh, descendants of followers of the 17th-century Jewish false messiah Sabbatai Zevi who converted to Islam while preserving distinct communal traditions. Explore this fascinating chapter of Thessaloniki’s complex religious and cultural history.

- Validity | All prices quoted are based on exchange rates as of the proposal date and are subject to change without notice. Rates are per person and are based on double occupancy room.
- How to Make a Reservation | The quickest way to make a reservation is to register online or contact us by email. We accept VISA, MasterCard, and American Express credit cards. A non-refundable deposit of $675 is required in order to complete the registration process.

- Payments | The balance of your payment is due 120 days before your trip begins, or as specified in your invoice. You will receive an email reminder 2 weeks before this date. Various payment options are available as follows:
- Credit card | We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Please check with your credit card provider regarding international processing fees. We are unable to process payments of over $1,000 over the phone. Please submit payment online via a credit card or by wiring funds via your bank.
- Domestic bank wire transfer | Payment should be wired in the same currency that is listed on your invoice. Please add the name of your group or invoice number as a reference and forward a copy of the transfer receipt by email. The bank transfer should clearly state the beneficiary’s name on the wire transfer.
- J² Adventures reserves the right to automatically cancel your reservation on that date and it may be subject to reconfirmation should the final payment not be received.
- Cancelation Policy | All cancelations need to be made in writing. The cancelation fee depends on the date when we receive written notification of your request to cancel your booking. Please note that the deposit is non-refundable.
- Cancelation fees | Cancelations made 120 or more days prior to departure incur the loss of the deposit. Cancelations made 119 to 46 days prior to departure incur the loss of 50% of the full trip cost. Cancelations made 45 days or less prior to the departure incur the loss of 100% of the full trip cost.
- Cancelation fees may also include: Hotel or supplier cancelation fees. J² Adventures reserves the right to adjust its terms of payment, including cancelation policies and initial deposits.
