DAY 1
SETTING OUT ON YOUR JOURNEY

  • Travel safely. Looking forward to seeing you in Mexico.
  • 12:30 p.m. Arrival at Benito Juárez International Airport in Mexico City.
  • Meet your local guide and your J² Expert Educator who will accompany you on this journey of Jewish peoplehood.
  • 3:00 p.m. Check in at your Mexico City hotel.
  • 3:30 p.m Gather at the hotel lobby.
  • Step into Mexico’s most iconic cultural landmark, where centuries of history come vividly to life. The National Museum of Anthropology houses an extraordinary collection of archaeological and anthropological treasures from Mexico’s pre-Columbian civilizations. Highlights include the legendary Stone of the Sun (the Aztec Calendar Stone) and the striking Aztec Xochipilli statue.
  • Continue with a walk of the Roma neighborhood.
  • 7:30 p.m. Welcome dinner at AlmaMia restaurant. Over dinner, you’ll meet and engage with Dr. Daniel Fainstein, Dean and a Professor of Jewish Studies and Education at the Hebrew University of Mexico, joined by members of the Jewish community—an opportunity to share stories, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of community life from those who live it every day.

DAY 2
STORIES AT THE HEART: JEWISH MEXICO THEN AND NOW
Mon. Feb 16, 2026
  • 8:30 a.m. Depart the hotel.
  • Cruise the Canals of Xochimilco: step aboard a colorful trajinera for a morning ride through Xochimilco’s ancient waterways. Enjoy live music and the vibrant energy that makes this experience so unique.
  • Free time for lunch on own at Condesa neighborhood.
  • Visit the Parral Synagogue, an Orthodox congregation that has been a cornerstone of Jewish communal life since 1961. Meet and engage in a conversation with Rabbi Tuvia Krawchik - a unique opportunity to learn firsthand about the Mexican Jewish community - then, now, and tomorrow.
  • Visit CDIJUM - the Mexican Jewish Documentation and Research Center - a vital institution dedicated to preserving and studying the history and cultural heritage of the Jewish community. Meet with a local researcher and expert to share key artifacts and documents that reveal the rich Jewish experience in Mexico.
  • Return to the hotel.
  • Enjoy an evening at leisure.

DAY 3
JEWISH LIFE IN MEXICO CITY:HISTORY, CULTURE, & COMMUNITY

  • Discover the roots of Jewish Mexico on a thoughtfully guided walking tour led by a local community expert. Beginning in the Historic Center, you’ll trace the early footsteps of Jewish immigrants who arrived over a century ago in search of freedom and opportunity:
    • Historic Synagogue, Justo Sierra 71
    • Two historic little synagogues of the old Jewish quarter
    • Kosher shops and former communal housing
    • Santo Domingo Square
    • Local market with Diego Rivera student murals
    • Former Yiddish theater building
  • Free time for lunch on own.
  • Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the Zócalo, the monumental heart of Mexico City:
    • Metropolitan Cathedral, the largest and oldest cathedral in Latin America
    • National Palace, home to the offices of the Mexican President, the Federal Treasury, and the National Archives
    • Templo Mayor, built on the site where the Aztecs saw the eagle on a cactus with a snake, today’s symbol of Mexico
  • Visit the Museum of Memory and Tolerance, a powerful space dedicated to fostering understanding and preserving the memory of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides, including those in Armenia, Rwanda, the former Yugoslavia, Cambodia, and Guatemala. Through the stories of victims and survivors, the museum invites deep reflection on history and underscores the enduring importance of human rights, dignity, and tolerance.

DAY 4
TEOTIHUACAN & THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLES OF MEXICO
Wed. Feb 18, 2026
  • 8:00 a.m. Depart the hotel.
  • Travel to the ancient Mesoamerican city of Teotihuacan - a UNESCO World Heritage site. Teotihuacan was one of the largest urban centers in the ancient world with a population over 100,000. Among the cities' monuments are the Mexican Pyramids and the Temple of the Feathered Serpent.
  • Enjoy a traditional lunch in a local restaurant on the way.
  • Guided tour of Chapultepec Castle with its panoramic views, murals, and garden terraces.
  • Short stop at the hotel to change before the evening.
  • 6:30 p.m. Depart the hotel.
  • Visit Deportivo Israelita (CDI), a sports and cultural center and a cornerstone of Jewish life in Mexico City. We learn about their mission to provide a safe and welcoming environment for the Jewish community to connect with their cultural roots, engage in physical activity, and build lasting relationships.
  • The evening will include a special talk with Benjamin Laniado, founder of CADENA A.C., a global NGO dedicated to humanitarian assistance in emergencies and disasters, and recognized as the humanitarian arm of the Jewish community in Mexico.
  • We will be hosted for dinner on site at Deportivo Israelita (CDI).
  • Return to the hotel.

DAY 5
FOOD, ART, EXILE, AND COLONIAL LEGACIES
Thu. Feb 19, 2026
  • 9:30 a.m. Depart the hotel.
  • Accompanied by a chef, explore a vibrant local market, known for its cultural diversity and colorful array of local ingredients. Taste freshly made tortillas, sip rich Oaxacan cacao, and sample native fruits as you discover the flavors that define Mexican cuisine.
  • Continue to the Chef's kitchen for a hands-on cooking workshop, preparing a four-course menu that blends ancestral techniques with seasonal, local ingredients.
  • Enjoy the fruits of your labor during lunch.
  • Take a guided walk in the picturesque Coyoacán neighborhood including its colonial plazas, boutiques, and cafes. Stop for a photo op at the Fountain of the Coyotes (Fuente de los Coyotes).
  • Continue to the iconic Studio House of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, a modernist landmark designed by Juan O’Gorman in 1931. These interconnected homes served as both residence and studio for two of Mexico’s most celebrated artists. Wander through spaces where art was born, and gain an intimate glimpse into their daily lives, creative process, and the revolutionary ideas that defined their era.
  • Enjoy a leisurely walk through vibrant corridors lined with hand-embroidered textiles, intricate alebrijes, Talavera pottery, silver jewelry, finely crafted wood carvings, and traditional decorative arts at the Mercado de Artesanías La Ciudadela, one of Mexico City’s most celebrated artisan markets.
  • Return to the hotel and enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure.

DAY 6
PEOPLE TO PEOPLE
Fri. Feb 20, 2026
  • Check out of the hotel.
  • 8:00 a.m. – Depart Mexico City and begin our scenic drive toward the charming colonial town of San Miguel de Allende.
  • Enjoy lunch on your own in the town center.
  • We will head out to visit Fábrica La Aurora, a beautifully restored textile factory that today houses tens of galleries and shops, showcasing the works of talented local artists in a variety of mediums.
  • Check into the hotel.
  • 5:40 p.m. Depart the hotel.
  • 6:00 p.m. Kabbalat Shabbat and Dinner at the JC3, the Jewish Cultural and Community Center at the heart of the San Miguel de Allende community.

DAY 7
SHABBAT IN SAN MIGUEL

  • 9:30 a.m Depart the hotel.
  • 10:00 a.m. Enjoy a short nature walk followed by a brief Shacharit service led by Rabbi Yael Splansky. This serene experience offers a meaningful start to the day, blending spiritual reflection with the beauty of San Miguel de Allende’s natural surroundings.
  • Stop in the heart of the city, downtown San Miguel de Allende, for lunch on own.
  • Continue on a short walking tour of downtown, including Parque Allende and visit the iconic Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, with its pink, Neo-Gothic facade.
  • Visit Casa Cohen and learn the history of the building. We’ll also discuss the nearby House of the Inquisitor.
  • Time to refresh at the hotel.
  • 4:15 p.m. Return to the JC3 to have a presentation about Jewish life in San Miguel, Led Kayla Fine.
  • 5:30 p.m. From London to Tel Aviv to San Miguel: Dialogue with Martin Fletcher, author and retired NBC News Middle East correspondent and Tel Avivian, now a local resident of San Miguel and an active member of the Jewish community.
  • 6:30 p.m. Farewell to Shabbat - until next week - with a special havdalah service with Dr. Daniel Lessner followed by Sephardic and world Jewish music performed by local Mexican Jewish musicians.
  • As we prepare to leave Mexico, we will gather for a festive meal at a local venue to share memories and thoughts before returning home.

DAY 8
HOME AGAIN
Sun. Feb 22, 2026
  • 6:30 a.m. Early checkout from the hotel and depart San Miguel on a group transfer to Benito Juárez International Airport in Mexico City.
  • Arrive at the airport and check in for your departure flight to Canada. We look forward to seeing you on your next J² adventure!
  • Recommended flight based on the above group transfer schedule: Flight AC 990 departing at 1:30 p.m., landing in Toronto 7:10 p.m. the same day.

  • Validity | All prices quoted are based on exchange rates as of the proposal date and are subject to change without notice. Rates are per person and are based on shared twin room occupancy.
  • How to Make a Reservation | The quickest way to make a reservation is to register online or contact us by email. We accept VISA, MasterCard, and American Express credit cards. A non-refundable deposit of $1,000 is required in order to complete the registration process.

  • Payments | The balance of your payment is due 90 days before your trip begins, or as specified in your invoice. You will receive an email reminder 2 weeks before this date. Various payment options are available as follows:
    • Credit card | We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Please check with your credit card provider regarding international processing fees. We are unable to process payments of over $1,000 over the phone. Please submit payment online via a credit card or by wiring funds via your bank.
    • Domestic bank wire transfer | Payment should be wired in the same currency that is listed on your invoice. Please add the name of your group or invoice number as a reference and forward a copy of the transfer receipt by email. The bank transfer should clearly state the beneficiary’s name on the wire transfer.
  • J² Adventures reserves the right to automatically cancel your reservation on that date and it may be subject to reconfirmation should the final payment not be received.
  • Cancelation Policy | All cancelations need to be made in writing. The cancelation fee depends on the date when we receive written notification of your request to cancel your booking. Please note that the deposit is non-refundable.
  • Cancelation fees | Cancelations made 90 or more days prior to departure incur the loss of the deposit. Cancelations made 89 to 46 days prior to departure incur the loss of 50% of the full trip cost. Cancelations made 45 days or less prior to the departure incur the loss of 100% of the full trip cost.
  • Cancelation fees may also include: Hotel or supplier cancelation fees. J² Adventures reserves the right to adjust its terms of payment, including cancelation policies and initial deposits.
