YOUR journey
J² crafts journeys of inspiration, education, and Jewish connections to Israel and worldwide. We are guided by a simple but powerful concept: No two trips are the same; each experience should be personal, meaningful, and backed by superb service. Travel is not just about the places you visit, but the connections you make along the way.

Program Itinerary
- Depart the US.
- Arrive at Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport.
- Check into the hotel (the official check-in time is at 3:00 p.m.).
- Meet your J² Expert Educator who will accompany you on this journey of learning and memory.
- Enjoy an introductory walking tour through Amsterdam’s alleys and canals and pass by the Royal Palace, situated on the west side of Dam Square, and the famous World War II Monument, a 72-ft concrete conical pillar covered by white travertine stone.
- Glide along the historic canals on a boat cruise while viewing the stunning architecture of the city and learning interesting facts about Amsterdam's history.
- Return to the hotel to freshen up.
- Recalling a World That Was: Participate in a discussion with your Expert Educator as well as an orientation as we begin our journey.
- Welcome dinner at local restaurant.
- Leave the hotel for a day of exploration and discovery.
- Stop at the statue dedicated to the Dutch dock workers who in 1941 launched a strike to protest Nazi treatment of their Jewish neighbors.
- Pass by the Jewish Quarter (Jodenbuurt), which back in the 16th century was home to the biggest Western-Europe Jewish community, including the Jewish Historical Museum. Explore the creativity and strength of Amsterdam’s Jewish community during its heyday and witness the devastation caused by the Nazi occupation.
- Tour the still-active Portuguese Synagogue, once one of the largest synagogues in Europe and a symbol of the glory of the Sephardi Jewish community in Holland.
- Proceed to Hollandsche Schouwburg (Dutch Theater); in 1941 the Nazi occupiers condemned this as a “Jewish” theater and used it as a deportation center. Today it is a museum and memorial to the victims of the Nazi era.
- At the Jewish Historical Museum, we will take some time to discuss our experiences today and meet with its director, Emile Schrijver. The museum is located in a former teacher training school that was used during WWII as a rescue place for hundreds of Jewish children who attended a nearby kindergarten.
- Visit the Spinoza Monument, dedicated to one of the greatest philosophers of all time, whose radical theology resulted in his excommunication from the Jewish community.
- Kabbalat Shabbat services at the Liberal Jewish Community, LJG Amsterdam, led by Rabbi Menno Ten Brink.
- Communal Shabbat dinner with local congregants OR festive Shabbat dinner at local restaurant.
- Visit the Anne Frank House, where you will learn about the girl behind the legend while exploring the offices and "secret annex" where Anne Frank, her family, and others spent 23 months hiding from the Nazis.
- Conversation with a scholar from the Anne Frank House.
- Discover some of the many hiding places in the center of Amsterdam and learn about the Jews that found refuge there.
- Guided exploration of Amsterdam's Mother of All Markets, the Albert Cuypmarkt, followed by lunch on own.
- Tour of the Rijksmuseum, the national museum of the Netherlands which tells the story of 800 years of Dutch history, from 1200 to now. Take the opportunity to admire world-famous masterpieces by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Israëls, and many more.
- Come together to usher out Shabbat with a group havdalah.
- Enjoy an evening out to explore Amsterdam on your own.
- The most beautiful spring garden in the world! Explore the Keukenhof and see the thousands of the spring flowers so bright they illuminate the sky. (Only in spring)
- Visit Kinderdijk, a UNESCO world heritage site. Dive into a world of windmills, water, and willpower. The canals, mills and pumping stations of Kinderdijk have kept our feet dry for over 700 years. Board the tour boat, step inside the museum mills and discover the personal stories of the millers.
- Return to Amsterdam.
