YOUR journey
J² crafts journeys of inspiration, education, and Jewish connections to Israel and worldwide. We are guided by a simple but powerful concept: No two trips are the same; each experience should be personal, meaningful, and backed by superb service. Travel is not just about the places you visit, but the connections you make along the way.

Program Itinerary
- Arrive at Ben Gurion International Airport. Transfer independently to Jerusalem and check in at your hotel.
- In the evening, gather with your fellow rabbinic colleagues and your J² Expert Educator for a welcome dinner and trip briefing. This opening gathering will set intentions for the days ahead—rooted in dialogue, reflection, and mutual support. Meet Israeli leaders and colleagues from Israel’s Reform Movement, who will join portions of the journey and help frame the themes of leadership, faith, and resilience.
- Gain an updated perspective on judicial reform during a behind-the-scenes visit to the Israel Religious Action Center (IRAC) and a discussion with Executive Director Orly Erez-Likhovski. Explore how legal tools are being used to advance religious freedom, gender equality, and democratic values.
- Begin at Mount Herzl, Israel’s national cemetery and final resting place of the country’s political and military leaders. Since October 7, 2023, new graves have been added to this sacred space. Stand in communal memory and join the daily Kaddish in honor of the fallen, confronting the human cost borne by Israeli families and society.
- Meet grassroots leaders from Israel’s dynamic civil society—religious and secular, Jewish and Arab, veteran and youth - who are working to build a more democratic and pluralistic society.
- Conclude the day with "Songs of Freedom", a musical learning experience with Cantor Shani Ben Or, using Israeli music as a mirror for the nation’s complex realities.
- Begin with a briefing by seasoned journalist Noga Tarnopolsky, who brings two decades of experience covering the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Examine the layers of history, politics, and narrative shaping today’s headlines and tomorrow’s realities.
- Meet with Samer Sinijlawi at the Tantur Hotel to explore his perspective as a prominent Palestinian political activist working to build channels of understanding between Israelis and Palestinians and to promote dialogue across divides.
- From Enemies to Allies: Engage with members of Combatants for Peace in Beit Jala, learning how former combatants from both sides pursue nonviolent activism and shared society initiatives.
- Participate in a study session with members of HaSmol HaEmuni (The Faithful Left), a religious movement that grounds progressive political engagement in Jewish ethical obligation. Explore how covenantal theology and justice-based activism intersect in contemporary Israeli discourse.
- Conclude the day at Mahane Yehuda Market, where the diversity of Israeli society comes alive in sound, flavor, and encounter. Use this shared space as a metaphor for Israel’s layered identities.
- Check out of your hotel and travel south for a day of deep engagement in the Gaza Envelope region, an area profoundly shaped by October 7.
- Continue conversations in the region about resilience, communal rebuilding, and the theological challenges posed by trauma and violence. Meet members and rabbis of the Reform community who have remained committed to building Jewish life amidst persistent violence. Hear their stories of spiritual resilience and faith in the face of ongoing uncertainty.
- Travel to the city of Rahat and hear from community leader Kher Elbaz to gain a firsthand understanding of Bedouin society in Israel’s Negev. Learn about local initiatives, social development efforts, and the evolving vision shaping Rahat’s future and that of the broader Bedouin community.
- Arrive in Tel Aviv and check in at your hotel.
- Begin with a learning session on healing and liturgy with Professor Rabbi Dalia Marx, exploring how prayer language responds to national crisis and how Reform liturgy evolves in moments of collective trauma.
- Meet with Professor Eyal Fruchter, founder of Alot HaShachar, psychiatrist, and former Head of Mental Health for the IDF Medical Corps. Examine models of trauma recovery, PTSD treatment, and immersive retreat-based healing for combat veterans—and consider the rabbinic role in supporting resilience.
- Participate in an experiential session at a therapeutic horse farm, followed by a sound-healing circle that integrates music, nature, and community. Reflect on embodied approaches to pastoral care and spiritual renewal.
- Conclude the day with "If I Could Speak at Your Synagogue", a dialogue with MARAM rabbis reflecting on Israel’s realities and how they resonate differently across Israel and the Diaspora.
- Meet with MK Rabbi Gilad Kariv, one of Israel’s most prominent voices advocating for a Jewish and democratic state. Engage in a substantive conversation about religious pluralism, civil rights, and the evolving place of Reform Judaism within Israel’s political and public spheres.
- Meet with members of a Reform conversion class, hearing firsthand about their journeys into Jewish life in Israel. Reflect on questions of belonging, halachic authority, and the lived experience of conversion within a contested religious landscape.
- Participate in an experiential workshop at the Ethiopian Israeli Heritage Center, including a traditional Ethiopian dance session. Explore the spiritual and cultural heritage of Ethiopian Jewry and consider the intersections of race, memory, and Jewish identity in Israeli society.
- Join one of several local Reform congregations for a joyful Kabbalat Shabbat service.
- Enjoy a warm and personal home-hospitality Shabbat dinner with local families, sharing stories, laughter, and perspectives in an intimate setting.
- Begin the day with a deep dive into the current state of Reform Judaism in Israel during a session with Anna Kislanski, CEO of the Israel Movement for Reform and Progressive Judaism (IMPJ). Engage in a candid conversation about the opportunities, tensions, and responsibilities facing Reform institutions and clergy in Israel’s public square - especially in light of recent national challenges.
- Check out of the hotel by noon.
- Visit the Gan Meir LGBTQ Center in Tel Aviv for a study session and dialogue on religion and LGBTQ+ rights in Israel. Engage with activists and community leaders to explore progress made, ongoing challenges, and the role of Reform clergy in advancing dignity and equality.
- Mark the end of Shabbat with a communal Havdalah ceremony.
- Farewell dinner and closing reflection session led by Rabbi Hara Person, Chief Executive of the CCAR. Share personal takeaways, blessings, and commitments for bringing this journey back home.
