Program Itinerary

DAY 1
ARRIVAL IN ISRAEL: OPENING OUR JOURNEY TOGETHER
Sun. Jan 25, 2026
  • Arrive at Ben Gurion International Airport. Transfer independently to Tel Aviv and check in at your hotel.
  • In the evening, gather with your fellow rabbinic colleagues and your J² Expert Educator for a welcome dinner and trip briefing. This opening gathering will set intentions for the days ahead - rooted in dialogue, reflection, and mutual support. Meet key leaders from Israel’s Reform Movement, who will join portions of the journey and help frame the themes of leadership, faith, and resilience.
Overnight: Tel Aviv Meals: Dinner
DAY 2
REFORM JUDAISM IN ACTION: LEADERSHIP, VALUES & VISION
Mon. Jan 26, 2026
  • Begin the day with a deep dive into the current state of Reform Judaism in Israel during a session with Anna Kislanski, CEO of the Israel Reform Movement (IMPJ). Engage in a candid conversation about the opportunities, tensions, and responsibilities facing Reform institutions and clergy in Israel’s public square - especially in light of recent national challenges.
  • Meet grassroots leaders from Israel’s dynamic civil society - religious and secular, Jewish and Arab, veteran and youth - who are working to build a more democratic and pluralistic society. Encounters may include Standing Together, a Jewish-Arab movement advocating equality, and Tag Meir, a coalition promoting tolerance and responding to hate crimes.
  • Take part in Shifting the Way History Is Told, a guided Tel Aviv walk tracing political visions and disputes from Independence Hall to Rabin Square, ending at the Altalena Memorial.
  • Conclude the day with If I Could Speak at Your Synagogue, a dialogue with MARAM Rabbis, reflecting on Israel’s realities and how they resonate differently across Israel and the Diaspora.
Overnight: Tel Aviv Meals: Breakfast
DAY 3
VOICES OF COURAGE: LIFE, LOSS & RENEWAL ON THE GAZA BORDER
Tue. Jan 27, 2026
  • Travel south to the Sha’ar HaNegev region, located along the Gaza border. Meet members of the Reform community who have remained committed to building Jewish life amidst persistent violence. Hear their stories of spiritual resilience and faith in the face of ongoing uncertainty.
  • Continue to Sderot, long known for its proximity to Gaza and the frequency of rocket attacks.
  • Visit the Nova Music Festival site, now transformed into a sacred space of mourning and remembrance. Reflect on how private memory becomes collective ritual in Israel’s evolving story.
  • At the Black Arrow Monument, commemorate Israel’s early military history and discuss how national memory is shaped through war, loss, and legacy. Use this historic backdrop to examine Israel’s changing security narrative.
  • Meet an Israeli Bedouin activist and leader in Rahat; and hear the stories of this unique community, their losses, and how life has changed in the wake of October 7th.
  • Before returning to Tel Aviv, gather for a guided reflection session to process the emotions and insights of this powerful day.
Overnight: Tel Aviv Meals: Breakfast
DAY 4
FROM RESILIENCE TO RENEWAL: HEALING ACROSS DIVIDES
Wed. Jan 28, 2026
  • Check out of your hotel and begin the journey to Jerusalem, stopping en route for encounters with voices of hope, creativity, and shared humanity.
  • Learn about Project 24, an initiative launched after October 7 that links Israeli and Diaspora communities in shared healing, reflection, and resilience-building. Explore how Jewish peoplehood is being redefined through compassion and partnership.
  • Visit the Arab-Israeli town of Jaljulia. Tour with a local resident and hear about daily life, exploring the future of intercultural exchange on the ground.
  • Head to Jerusalem.
  • Pause for a shehecheyanu blessing, welcoming the group to Jerusalem and affirming the sacredness of this collective journey.
  • Conclude the day with Songs of Freedom, a musical learning experience with Cantor Shani Ben Or, using Israeli music as a mirror for the nation’s complex realities.
  • Check in to your hotel in Jerusalem and take time to rest and absorb the transition from Tel Aviv’s energy to Jerusalem’s intensity.
Overnight: Jerusalem Meals: Breakfast
DAY 5
LAW, MEMORY & THE MORAL SOUL OF ISRAEL
Thu. Jan 29, 2026
  • Begin with a briefing by seasoned journalist Noga Tarnopolsky, who brings two decades of experience covering the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Examine the layers of history, politics, and narrative shaping today’s headlines and tomorrow’s realities.
  • Gain an updated perspective on judicial reform during a behind-the-scenes visit to the Israel Religious Action Center (IRAC) and a discussion with Orly Erez-Likhovski, Executive Director. Explore how legal tools are being used to advance religious freedom, gender equality, and democratic values.
  • Visit the Educational Bookshop, owned by the Muna family, and hear firsthand about daily life and the current situation in East Jerusalem.

  • Explore Israeli realities through creative disciplines in a study of mourning and loss.
  • Meet Professor Rabbi Dalia Marx for a learning session.
  • Spend the afternoon exploring Mahane Yehuda Market, where spices, voices, and traditions mix in a sensory feast. This iconic space is both a marketplace and a metaphor - where the diversity of Israeli society is on full display.

  • At 6:00 p.m., check out of your hotel and head to a farewell dinner and closing reflection session led by Rabbi Hara Person, Chief Executive of the CCAR. Share personal takeaways, blessings, and commitments for bringing this journey back home.
