Scotland’s Jewish story is little known but deeply compelling — one of resilience, adaptation, and quiet pride. In the 19th century, Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe began settling in Glasgow and Edinburgh, building communities that balanced tradition with integration. Traces of this legacy remain in places like Glasgow’s Garnethill Synagogue, Edinburgh’s Hebrew congregation, and the records preserved by the Scottish Jewish Archives Centre. Though small today, Scotland’s Jewish communities continue to shape national life, carrying forward a legacy of civic spirit and enduring identity.
