Italian Jews have roots in Italy that go back more than 2,000 years old. In fact, it wasn’t until the Romans destroyed the Second Temple in Jerusalem that the Jewish/Roman alliance was broken and Jews were forced into slavery. During the Modern Ages, Jews founded communities throughout the country and mostly in the major cities. Post-World War II, several tens of thousands of Jews preserved their traditions in their communities, including a unique Italian-Jewish dialect.
